Washington Redskins: Will Alex Smith bring his winning ways to D.C.?

For years, it seemed like the Washington Redskins could not make a commitment to Kirk Cousins to be their long-term solution at quarterback. Instead of locking him up to a long-term deal, they would just throw the franchise tag on him, and pay him a ton of money.

Well, the team finally made a decision regarding the signal-caller this offseason, deciding to let him go, and bringing in Alex Smith to be their starter. Smith comes to Washington after leading the Kansas City Chiefs to multiple AFC West titles, and he will have his hands full in year one in the nation’s capital.

First, there is a lack of weapons on the outside, though they did did bring in Paul Richardson this offseason. One bright spot on the roster should be running back Derrius Guice, who was one of the top backs in the 2018 NFL Draft class, and fell to the Redskins in the second round.

In Smith, the Redskins have a proven leader, and he has a team that is more than happy to have his services in 2018 and beyond. The Redskins have a tough slate in front of them, as the NFC East is one of the toughest divisions in football, and every team in it got better this offseason.

The Redskins defense has been atrocious in recent seasons, and they did a nice job bringing in guys to fix that this offseason. Smith is just a winner when it comes to the regular season, and he has some nice weapons to play with in his first season in D.C.
