Tennessee Titans: Did they add enough defensively to win the AFC South?

During the 2017 season, many people were wondering whether or not Marcus Mariota would come back from his injury sustained in 2016 and be as good as he was before. Well, Mariota was all of that and more, leading the Titans to the playoffs, and then delivering one of the more surprising upsets of the postseason.

Mariota went into Kansas City and beat the Chiefs inside Arrowhead Stadium, which is a pretty tough thing to do. While they would go on to get blasted by the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round, they laid the groundwork that this going to be a playoff team for the foreseeable future.

This offseason, the Titans have done a nice job filling holes on their roster, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Sure, the addition of Dion Lewis to the running back group is a nice one, but I am more impressed with the other New England Patriots star they were able to clutch from the AFC champs.

A year after adding Logan Ryan to their secondary, the Titans added Malcolm Butler, who was benched during the Patriots’ Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles this past February. Butler joins a secondary that should be the best in the AFC South, as Adoree Jackson, Jonathan Cyprien, and Kevin Byard round out an impressive unit.

During the 2018 NFL Draft, the Titans also got better on the inside of their defense, as they drafted Alabama standout middle linebacker Rashaan Evans. The Titans made a concerted effort to get better on the defensive side of the ball, and in a very tough AFC South, they are certainly going to need it.
