19. USC (Maroon)

For once, the USC Trojans are able to defeat the Texas Longhorns when it matters most. After losing to the Longhorns in one of college football’s most memorable bouts, the Trojans get a much-needed confidence boost — coming in one slot ahead of Texas on this list. The reasons for USC being on this list are pretty self-evident. They’re one of the most successful programs in NCAA history, they’ve developed a massive brand and their color pairing is visually appealing.

Out of every nickname in college football — standard and distinctive — no single name fits the USC style like Trojans. The powerful, gritty and cut-throat style in which they play is just as vibrant as its colors. On the surface, the colors of USC appear to be maroon and yellow. In reality, they’re described as cardinal and gold. I guess when you’ve won 11 national titles, you can call your school’s colors whatever the heck you want without anybody questioning you. So let’s dive into USC’s cardinal jersey.

In the Trojans’ case, the uniforms are fairly standard of Nike. A gold stripe on the shoulder. The secondary color making up the entirety of the number, Nike log and conference logo. The team’s secondary color making up the Trojans’ secondary logo. However, it’s the history behind the USC Trojans cardinal uniform which lands it on this list. Regardless of what you call each color behind USC’s football team, the combination is fashionable, iconic and represents the true spirit of the Trojans — as well as Los Angeles.
