4. Toby Alderweireld

For years, it’s been a baffling mystery as to how both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are still starting for Manchester United.

They brought in Lindelof last season from Benfica, only for the Swedish defender to struggle to get into the side. And while he has shown flashes of promise in the 17 league appearances he’s made, Mourinho has lost patience with him and shunned him.

Lindelof and Eric Bailly were supposed to be the center-back pairing fans were praying for. But with the former failing to impress and the latter struggling with injuries, it’s time to bring in another defender, Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian has been one of best defenders in the league since coming to Spurs from Atletico Madrid. However, the 29-year-old has dealt with his own injury issues and has fallen out of favor with Mauricio Pochettino. According to Martin Lipton of The Sun, Spurs could let him go but will want Anthony Martial plus cash as part of the deal.

This deal makes sense because Spurs are in great need of a pacy, direct winger. United need an upgrade at the heart of the defense, and Alderweireld is a rolls royce of a player. He’s a smooth operator, able to play out of the back with his superb passing range. At over 6-feet-tall, he’s the prototypical Mourinho player who can hold his own against opposing strikers.

United are a win-now, win-at-all-costs team. Getting Alderweireld is a win-win move.
