3. Ryan Sessegnon

Remember Luke Shaw? The left-back who came to United as an 18-year old, was seen as the man to replace the incredible Patrice Evra. Former manager Louis Van Gaal was looked at as the best man to get him acclimated and improve him.

Yeah, about that, it’s not working out. How bad has it gotten? Remember Daley Blind, yeah he’s nowhere to be seen. Nowadays, Ashley Young who’s not a defender by trade is now first-choice left-back, whipping in crosses with his right foot. Now, both Shaw and Blind need to leave Old Trafford to get their careers back on track.

Should United try again at bringing in a wonderkid, they won’t have to look any further than Ryan Sessegnon. The 18-year-old has won many awards this season due to his incredible displays with Fulham. With 16 goals and 7 assists to his name this season – as primarily a left-back – he has shown that he is ready for the big stage.

Sessegnon is tactically flexible, able to play left-back, left wing-back and as a left-winger. It’s a disappointment he’s not on the plane to Russia, but expect him to feature in Euro 2020.

If he lands at United, expect him to play opposite of Antonio Valencia. Because of how narrow United tend to play, you can see Sessegnon drifting wide and becoming the main outlet on the left flank. He won’t replace Alexis Sanchez on the wing, so he’ll have to settle as a defender which is fine. Romelu Lukaku won’t mind being on the end of his deliveries.
