Giants at Rockies

Giants Probable Starter – Derek Holland, LHP

4.73 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 21.3 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .129 average, .207 wOBA, 48.0 fly ball rate and 18.5 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .240 average, .342 wOBA, 46.0 fly ball rate and 44.1 hard contact rate

If you were curious as to why I wouldn’t just simply lock in Max Scherzer for cash games, there’s two reasons. One is there are some other far cheaper options that are better plays on a per-dollar basis. The second is we have a lefty in Coors Field against the Rockies who gives up an obscene amount of fly balls and hard contact to righty bats. I have a tough time sending out a cash lineup without Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story in it. They just smash lefty pitching and I legitimately think a double dong is possible for both of them. You could go whole hog and stack up Ian Desmond and Chris Iannetta alongside them if you wanted. Holland could get absolutely buzz-sawed tonight.

Rockies Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story, Ian Desmond, Charlie Blackmon

Secondary Options – Chris Ianetta, Noel Cuevas

Rockies Probable Starter – Jon Gray, RHP

5.40 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 26.3 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .283 average, .359 wOBA, 31.8 fly ball rate and 39.3 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .280 average, .314 wOBA, 26.4 fly ball rate and 31.5 hard contact rate

Gray is a hard pitcher to get a handle on as his results have been wildly inconsistent all season long. Just in Coors alone, here’s the results from his starts as far as FanDuel points – 12, 0, 61, 55, 28 and 36. I have no idea what to make of him tonight and at his price point, I’d lean towards taking a shot with him in a bigger GPP. Only two active players for the Giants have a wOBA over .350 against righties so far and one of them is Gorkys Hernandez. The other is Brandon Belt who can wreck Gray’s day in a hurry. There’s still potential here as the Giants have a mediocre offense and carry a top five strikeout rate against righty pitching as a team.

Giants Hitters to target

Elite Options – Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, Gorkys Hernandez

Secondary Options – Andrew McCutchen, Buster Posey

Home Run Pick – Arenado, Story and Desmond all leave the yard if Holland is left in for five innings
