Twins at Royals

Twins Probable Starter – Fernando Romero, RHP

1.88 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 25.0 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .114 average, .162 wOBA, 33.3 strikeout rate and 37.5 fly ball rate

Vs RHH – .231 average, .319 wOBA, 26.1 fly ball rate and 36.2 hard contact rate

If Musgrove was tempting because of price point in an iffy matchup, the same must be said for Romero. The young righty has been excellent in his five starts, with only one being a bit of a stinker. His lone blemish came against the Brewers but he righted the ship and controlled the Mariners in his following start. Perhaps the biggest knock against using Romero is the Royals just don’t strike out a lot as team against righty pitching. They’re actually the best in the majors in strikeout rate. One hitter that does stand out is Jorge Soler. Romero throws a fast ball over 62 percent of the time and has given up more damage to righties. Soler hits right handed and is inside the top 20 players in baseball against the fastball this season. Past that, I don’t think I’ll have a ton of Royals. There’s reason to suspect that Romero is just a good pitcher.

Royals Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Jorge Soler

Secondary Options – Mike Moustakas, Salvador Perez

Royals Probable Starter – Brad Keller, RHP

*Stats are from relief appearances* 2.01 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 14.1 strikeout rate

I;m not going to dive into the splits for Keller because odds are he’s not going to stick around too long in this game. His season high for pitches thrown is 43 and he probably can’t make it much more than three innings. As we’ve seen from Tampa, that can make it a little tricker to try and target hitters because the bullpen could be in at any moment. As things stand, I’d go ahead with the Twins best hitters regardless of split. They’re all priced up a little bit for my liking. Any Twins hitter that I could play is close in salary to a Braves hitter. For instance, I’d rather play Ozzie Albies at $3,800 than Brian Dozier at $3,700.

Secondary Options – Max Kepler, Miguel Sano, Logan Morrison

Home Run Pick – Jorge Soler
