Zidane out at Real Madrid: 5 managers who could replace him
Joachim Low (Germany)
The Germany coach may want to change things up once the World Cup comes to an end. He’s been at the helm of his country’s national team for a long time and win or lose in Russia, Low could want to get involved with a club team at a very high level.
The 58-year-old German has only ever managed mid-tier club sides like VfB Stuttgart and has made his bones on the national team level first as an assistant, for two years starting in 2004 under then-Germany manager Jurgen Klinsmann, and as head coach since 2006. Although he has extended his contract to 2022, it doesn’t mean Low will necessarily be there should Germany win another World Cup this summer.
Low guided the team win the World Cup four years ago in Brazil. That doesn’t mean he could deal with the day-to-day that comes with managing a club team. That doesn’t really matter in this case. The chance to coach Real Madrid is something any manager would jump at. Low’s candidacy should gather steam should Real not name a replacement quickly and wait until after the World Cup to make a decision.
