The former No. 2 pick has had an interesting NBA career so far. He’s had two ACL injuries in his first four years, hampering what looked like a promising career when the Bucks selected him four years ago.

While there is significant risk in giving Parker a big contract, Phoenix could take a gamble that they’d be able to figure out how to protect him from another big injury and in the process, find a player that can be a valuable modern power forward.

Parker is a bit of a duplicate of Warren, in the sense that he isn’t going to put up a lot of shots from behind the 3-point line. He isn’t a plus defender, and his instinct is to look to score instead of take more of a third or fourth option role.

But if the Suns take Ayton with the first pick, they could try to develop him into a skilled defensive center that could make up for some of the limitations that Parker and Booker have. With Brandon Knight at point guard, they wouldn’t have any plus defenders in their starting lineup, but that’s something that they can develop with their other draft picks and in future offseasons.
