vegas is not happy with the ALLCAPS campaign, and it has called in some local muscle for backup prior to game 5 between the washington capitals and vegas golden knights.

editor’s note: obviously, the lack of any capitalization in this article is deliberate. thanks for playing along.

the washington capitals are one victory away from securing their first stanley cup in franchise history. leading the vegas golden knights 3-1 in the series, the capitals have a chance to hoist the cup on thursday night in vegas.

if you’ve followed the postseason on twitter like most fans, you’ve no doubt noticed the hashtag #ALLCAPS. it’s at the end of every tweet sent by the official capitals account and is followed by the caps logo. it’s supposed to unite fellow washington fans, but truthfully it’s the capitals campaign to be louder than every other twitter user.

mgm resorts, known librarians, are none too pleased with all the yelling.

#nocaps is their way of telling all you 280 character abusers to keep it down. what happens in vegas can’t stay in vegas if you’re using ALLCAPS. though it is ironic that in the spirit of covering mgm’s initiative, we’ve had to lowercase a typically uppercase brand name.

come to think of it, maybe this is mgm’s way of trying to keep the capitals out of vegas. what looks to be a petty twitter promotion might be a message to the police. if there are no caps in vegas on thursday, the golden knights would cut the deficit to 3-2. novechkin may have been enough, but when you’re down 3-1, you can never be too safe.

unfortunately for mgm resorts and the golden knights, the capitals are already in vegas and ready for game 5. washington will have two chances to grant mgm its wish and ensure there are no caps in vegas until next season.
