3. Danny Amendola will lead the team in catches

There can’t be any real debate about whether or not the Dolphins overpaid Danny Amendola this summer. They clearly did. Paying $12 million over two years for a 32-year-old receiver who can only operate in the slot is a clear overpay.

That doesn’t mean Amendola can’t be productive though. This offense was very dependent on Jarvis Landry to make plays out of the slot last season. Amendola is capable of filling Landry’s void in the Dolphins’ attack.

The team shouldn’t want Amendola to replicate Landry’s 112-catch season from a year ago, but he’ll still catch plenty of balls in Gase’s attack. In fact, it’s distinctly possible that Amendola will be more productive than Landry was. Specifically, he should be able to produce more yards per catch. His average of 10.8 yards per reception for New England last year was two yards higher than Landry’s average with the Dolphins.

Assuming Amendola can stay healthy, it’s entirely possible he can flirt with 100 catches. That will cause many to celebrate him as a value signing. That still won’t be true, but Amendola should put up numbers in 2018. Expect him to lead this receiver group in catches.
