The Oklahoma City Thunder were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round, and all hopes of re-signing Paul George seemed lost. It looks like the Thunder have more than just a chance of bringing him back.

Sam Presti and the Oklahoma City Thunder pulled off what seemed to be the trade of the summer last offseason when they acquired Paul George from the Indiana Pacers. The Thunder paired him with the then reigning MVP Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, and suddenly they had their own Big Three.

However, according to the New York Times’ Mark Stein the Thunder have a realistic shot at bringing George back to Oklahoma City.

It was one of the weirdest seasons the Thunder have had in recent memory. Every time it looked like they’d reel off 10 straight wins they’d lose to the Phoenix Suns for reasons unknown.

Their season eventually ended in a first round exit at the hands of the Utah Jazz. After that the clock was ticking on what George would do this summer. Even though it seemed like the Thunder had almost no chance of bringing George back next season after their disappointing playoff exit it seems that’s not the case.

The thought of a return is great news for the Thunder seeing as Westbrook isn’t getting any younger and Anthony is in all likelihood going to pick up his $27 million dollar player option for next season.

Despite the teams up and down year George was pretty steady the entire season. He finished the season averaging over 20 points and five rebounds per game, and brought it on the defensive end every night.

George technically can just pick up his player option for next season, and he has until June 29 to inform the Thunder if he plans to do so. That’s the least likely scenario though. Either way I’m sure Westbrook would very much like to have George back in thunder blue next season.
