A Baltimore bar is offering shots for Chris Davis hits

Chris Davis is not getting many hits these days, but a Baltimore bar is trying to drive business based on when he does.

As 2018 becomes a lost season for the Baltimore Orioles, Chris Davis’s slump is so deep he has not been in the lineup or even gotten off the bench to pinch-hit in either of the last two games. After his 0-for-5 with three strikeouts against the Boston Red Sox on Monday, he has been sitting with a .150/.227/.227 slash-line, four home runs, 15 RBI and 86 strikeouts in 229 plate appearances this season.

Davis always struck out a lot at his peak, but to this point in the season he has literally been the worst hitter in all of baseball and pitchers have not been afraid to challenge him. Of his 31 hits this far, 23 have been singles and he has only drawn 19 walks.

The Orioles’ ineptitude this season has surely hurt the economy around Camden Yards, and bar business across their home city. But one Baltimore bar is trying to boost business, while also trying to spur a turnaround from Davis.

According to Edward Lee of The Baltimore Sun, Bartenders Pub is offering free shots every time Davis gets a hit.

"Bartenders Pub at 2218 Boston St. is offering customers free Dr Pepper shooters for every hit Davis gets. The drinks are a mix of amaretto and Miller High Life beer in Pony bottles and are called Dr Pepper shooters because they taste like the soft drink."

Bar owner Dana Coker acknowledged the importance of baseball season to the business, and the challenge of bringing people in to watch a bad team.

“Baseball season for us is big business, With the team not doing so well, it’s affected our business. We just can’t seem to do any specials that encourage people to come to the bar and watch baseball with us.”

Davis has eight hits (and 38 strikeouts) in his last 80-bats, dating back to May 12, for a nice round .100 batting average over that span. So Bartenders Pub is not in line to give away a lot of Dr. Pepper shooters, but maybe some extra publicity (note the address given in the Sun article) will bring people in to purchase the shots when Orioles’ games aren’t going on.
