5. Wayne Ellington

The Raptors could do with more outside shooting, and Wayne Ellington is a shooter. He’s also a longshot for the Raptors to sign. First, he’s likely to re-sign with the Miami Heat. Second, he’s likely to cost more than the Raptors are currently willing and able to spend. Still, if they could move some pieces around, it might be worth taking a shot on a guard who just set the record for most 3-pointers made by a reserve in a single season.

If the Raptors believe in their current core and want to justify that belief by paying more to shore up its weaknesses, then a player like Ellington would work. A player like Ellington is also probably beyond the team’s grasp, and yet even entertaining the idea seems more worthwhile than adding say an aging Arron Afflalo to the mix.

A similar option, with both a higher ceiling and a rising price tag , might be Denver Nuggets free agent to be Will Barton. In other words, this slide is for the dreamers.
