Bargain drivers (salary below $9,000)

Paul Menard ($8,500) – Averaging better than a top-15 finish at Sonoma over the past five seasons, and you know how consistently well he runs with very little fanfare. Expensive for the bargain tier but probably worth it if you have the salary room.

Ryan Newman ($8,000) – The same things we said about Menard also apply to Newman, except he’s actually been a tad better at this track since 2012. He’s also starting 14th which seems like right around where he might finish too, if not a little higher.

Kasey Kahne ($7,700) – Had four top-10 finishes in this race in a row before last year, when he ended up 24th. His equipment stinks this season, and he’s starting 26th, but maybe you take a flier here and hope his skill at Sonoma makes up for his crappy car.

Michael McDowell ($6,200) – Before you laugh, he finished 14th in this race last season. If you need a total low salary home run shot, this could be your guy.
