If the Mets want to rebuild the right way, here’s the perfect blueprint

Asdrubal Cabrera heads to Los Angeles
The Dodgers already have their 19-year-old Keibert Ruiz who passed Will Smith, the former first-round pick, in the prospect rankings at catcher. Smith is excellent defensively and can give you some pop. In 44 games in AA he’s hitting .266 with 11 home runs.
The Mets desperately need catching help, with Devin Mesoraco likely leaving in free agency Smith should be ready to go for 2019 as your starting catcher.
With Jeurys Familia a free agent at the end of the year the Mets should sell on him as well. The Indians desperately need bullpen help, outside of Cody Allen and Andrew Miller (who is hurt) their pen is atrocious.
Mets land Aaron Civale to build a future rotation
Here the Mets can nab a pitcher who can be used in either the rotation or bullpen in 2019. Civale was a closer in college but has since turned into a starter n the minors. In AA this year, Civale is 4-2 with a 2.60 ERA. He was picked by the Indians in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
If I’m the Mets I’m doing anything I can to get out of the Jay Bruce deal. Bruce is signed for two more years at $14 million. There’s one place I could actually see him going, once he returns healthy that is.
The Twins desperately need a DH. Right now Robbie Grossman is giving them nothing from the position. When healthy, Bruce can provide you with 30 or more home runs which is perfect for the DH position.
Jay Bruce for a future corner infield anchor
In this deal, the Twins can finally get a competent DH and the Mets get the heir replacement for Todd Frazier after the 2019 season. Bechtold is struggling in A ball right now, hitting only .216 but he should come around.
He’s not really a power guy but is expected to hit for some average, something the Mets could actually use and he has an excellent glove.
