1. When will Wentz really return?

The Eagles are smart to take every precaution necessary with Wentz’s rehab this summer. After all, Philadelphia was good enough with Nick Foles at the controls to run through the playoffs and win a Super Bowl. That doesn’t mean they want to head into the 2018 regular season with him as their starting quarterback.

Obviously, Eagles officials would love for Wentz to be fully cleared to start Week 1. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be a likely outcome. Doug Pederson freely admits he “doesn’t really know when Carson will be cleared.” He’s encouraged by Wentz’s progress, but the coach clearly doesn’t want to put him under pressure by naming a return date.

In all honesty, the date where Wentz is cleared to return to the field isn’t really important. Eagles fans should be much more concerned with how long it takes the “real Wentz” to lead the team’s offense. Philadelphia’s offense thrives when their quarterback feels free to make plays with his legs and his arm. Wentz isn’t of much use to the team if he’s trying to play at half speed due to injury.

Eagles fans shouldn’t be alarmed if Wentz misses a few games to begin the 2018 season. Discretion is the better part of valor here. The important thing is for Wentz to be let loose as soon as he returns. If that has to wait until Week 4, so be it.
