3. San Francisco 49ers: 8.5 wins — Over

Talk of the 49ers becoming Super Bowl contenders this season are almost certainly premature. That doesn’t mean they can’t become a playoff team. As such, betting the over is the play here at -115.

The addition of Jimmy Garoppolo to this offense totally changes the complexion of the group. There’s a reason they went on an impressive winning streak after making the trade for the former Patriots quarterback last season. It’s true he won’t be able to sneak up on anyone in 2018, but his talent level is good enough to get him in Pro Bowl contention.

Combine that, with the belief that both the Seahawks and Cardinals are prime regression candidates this season and it’s easy to understand the rationale for taking the over. 10 wins seems like a more reasonable median outcome for the Niners. Getting the chance to wager on them a full win and a half below that mark is too good to turn down.

The mistake Vegas has made here is failing to price in a full season of Garoppolo into the 49ers projection. That gives you a chance to profit from their mistake. This is one of the strongest bets on the board currently.
