1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

There’s no team in the NFL that has more drama at the quarterback position than the Buccaneers. Jameis Winston will miss the first the first three games of the regular season after violating the NFL’s conduct policy. His transgressions off the field have put his future on the field in serious jeopardy.

Even if you just look at Winston’s play, there are serious questions as to whether or not he’s anything other than a below-average starter. He’s got a big arm but he misses wildly on a lot of throws. Perhaps even more concerning are some of the choices he makes in the pocket. Winston has a nasty habit of throwing the ball into heavy coverage.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the chance to open the year as the Buccaneers’ starter, but he’s nothing more than a stop-gap. He might play well enough to keep Tampa Bay in the mix for a playoff spot until Winston returns, but that’s all Dirk Koetter and company can reasonably expect.

The prudent thing for the Buccaneers front office would be to make a deal for Bridgewater as soon as possible. That would allow him, and not Fitzpatrick, to start the first three games of the year. They could make a choice about who to start in the fourth game after seeing Bridgewater up close and personal. It’s very possible he could be the team’s best choice to put Winston and his baggage in the rear view mirror.
