9. LeBron James: The Godfather

LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes of all time. His relationship with The Godfather, however, is interesting (to put it nicely). During the 2016 NBA Finals, James, like that one kid you knew in high school who would say anything to be cool, claimed during a press conference that he had seen The Godfather six times during their playoff run.

When a member of the media asked him to quote his favorite line, he dodged the question entirely. It was pretty clear he had not watched the films and had not thought out his lie entirely before the words came out of his mouth. The whole thing was reminiscent of the sandbag scene from The 40 Year Old Virgin. Clearly LeBron had never seen the movie.

Since then, LeBron took on The Godfather as a bit of a mantra. Just under a year later, he was seen reading the book on the way into a game vs. the Boston Celtics. He was taking every step imaginable to avoid the incident happening again.

Regardless of whether or not he had seen the movies, it was clear that LeBron James was the NBA godfather when he murdered his entire Cleveland Cavaliers team at the trade deadline last year. The reassembled squad wasn’t good enough, so they were left to die (next season) as well.

I’m pretty sure that’s how the story goes, anyway. As you now know, much like LeBron, I haven’t seen The Godfather either.

LeBron now rules over Western Conference, starring for the new showtime Lakers. His star-studded cast, including newly acquired Lance Stephenson, Nick Young and not J.R. Smith is like the NBA’s version of the Avengers. (I probably could have made a Godfather reference there if I had seen the movies.)

Speaking of movies, LeBron James is going to be starring in Space Jam 2 during our lifetime and it is just one more thing he’s going to be better than Michael Jordan at.
