3. Kerryon Johnson, Detroit Lions

The Lions running game has been a complete disaster the past couple of years. They were hoping that Ameer Abdullah would develop into a lead back, but injuries and inconsistency has stunted his growth.

This offseason they brought in rookie Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount to get the ground attack moving. Blount is a solid veteran piece who will get the majority of his work in short yardage situations.

Johnson is the one who has a chance to move into the featured role. He’s a strong runner who has the burst to eat up big chucks of yardage.

Detroit’s offensive line looks like a very strong group. The interior of Frank Ragnow, Graham Glasgow and T.J. Lang is fierce with the ability to generate a push off the line. Tackles Taylor Decker and Ricky Wagner are also strong in this area.

The biggest concerns surrounding Johnson is his limited experience and injury history. Last year, was his first as Auburn’s featured back. Injuries cost him some action which is a cause for concern.

On the flip side, he comes into the league without the wear and tear we typically see from a college running back. By comparison, Johnson had 517 career carries while Nick Chubb had 758.
