23. Eli Manning, New York Giants

There was a time when Manning was easily one of the top 10 signal callers in the league. That time has clearly passed. Many people believe the Giants should have acquired his replacement in the 2018 Draft. That’s an open debate, but Manning is clearly in decline.

In fairness to the former Super Bowl champion, this offense was a mess last season. There’s a reasonable argument to be made that much of his decline in 2017 was due to the lack of talent and poor coaching that surrounded him.

However, when you turn on the tape, it’s clear there was more than just scheme to blame for his poor play. Manning’s arm strength is clearly starting to desert him. That is the primary reason that his yards per completion average dropped to just 6.1 last season. The loss of Odell Beckham Jr. contributed to that as well, but Manning just doesn’t have the same zip on intermediate throws that he used to possess.

The end result in 2018 should be a mild bounce back season for the Giants quarterback. He’s not going to return to anything more than an average NFL starter, but that could be good enough to keep New York in playoff contention for a while. Expect Pat Shurmur to lean heavily on the run game to take the pressure of his aging quarterback.
