Pittsburgh Steelers – Jack Lambert

When the Pittsburgh Steelers came into existence back in 1933, they were actually known as the Pittsburgh Pirates, sharing the name of their baseball counterpart that plays in Pittsburgh. They kept that name until 1939, and have been known as the Steelers for almost the rest of their history.

There was a time in the 1940s when they had to band with other teams to form a team due to World War II, so they were the Phil-Pitt Steagles in 1943, and the Card-Pitt in 1944, but they went  back to being the Steelers in 1945. They have since become an iconic franchise in the NFL, winning a record six Super Bowl titles.

Their first Super Bowl came in 1974, and it began an era of dominance for the team in the mid-to-late 1970s. They would win a title the following year, and would follow that up with back-to-back Lombardi Trophies in 1978 and ’79. The Steelers were certainly the team of the decade.

Ben Roethlisberger has led the team to two Super Bowls in his career, one in 2005, and one in 2008. He has the talent to bring a third title home to Pittsburgh in the coming years, but the window is closing, and it has been a decade since their last one.
