Arizona Coyotes

Is it finally heating up in the desert for the Arizona Coyotes?

The Cup-less ‘Yotes have tortured their fan base enough since officially relocating to Arizona back in 1996, but eight Stanley Cup Playoff appearances later the team has only appeared once in the Western Conference Final.

Though, Arizona has appeared to make some commendable transaction and changes to the team’s roster over the past two seasons. The young John Chayka has wasted no time making his mark as an up and coming general manager in the NHL, Chayka managed to re-sign Oliver Ekman-Larsson to an eight-year contract, worth over $8 million per season.

The team’s franchise skater in Ekman-Larsson is more than happy out west with the Coyotes, and other skaters such as Christian Dvorak and Clayton Keller will prove to be commendable franchise skaters moving forward.

No, the Coyotes don’t currently have that superstar depth that’s necessary to make a deep run into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but stellar play from Antti Raanta gives Arizona more hope than most would think.

Raanta’s .930 save percentage last season proved that the Finnish, native is ready to take over the reigns as one of the league’s top starting netminders; and establish consistency for an organization that’s been lacking that aspect for well over a decade. Though, Raanta needs to stay healthy in order to his ‘Yotes a fighting chance.

Arizona more than likely isn’t one or two years away from winning a Cup, but 2025 sounds about right for the Coyotes to host their first ever Stanley Cup championship parade.
