Dallas Mavericks — Mark Cuban

It is hard to recognize Mark Cuban as anything but a fan of the Dallas Mavericks at this point. He happens to be the team’s owner as well.

In January of 2000, Cuban became the majority owner of the Mavericks. Since that time, Dallas has been one of the most successful teams in the NBA — making the playoffs 15 times. Cuban’s first full season as owner began a 12-year streak of making the postseason.

Dallas made the championship twice in that span, facing the Miami Heat both times. The team’s first appearance was in 2006, falling to Miami. The Mavericks got them back in 2011, however.

Cuban’s run has been successful, but it has been far from perfect. Ross Perot Jr, who sold Cuban his majority stake but held onto 5 percent of the team, sued Cuban in 2010. Perot claimed the team was insolvent and owed over $200 million in debts. Perot wanted a court order allowing him to take control of the team.

After winning the title in 2011, the suit went away.

As of earlier in 2018, however, Cuban was in hot water once again. Sports Illustrated reported on a “corrosive workplace culture” inside the Mavericks organization — including years of ignored sexual harassment. The common assumption was that Cuban either knew and ignored it or was too blind to notice. Either way, it may go down as the biggest stain on Cuban’s ownership record.

This is supposed to be about his fandom, however, which no one at this point can deny.
