20. Tyrod Taylor

Taylor guided the Bills to their first playoff appearance since 1999 … and his reward was being traded … to the Cleveland Browns. Buffalo’s move was understandable, though, since Taylor is more of filler than franchise. His best season came in 2015, and even that only meant 20 touchdowns and 3,035 yards.

19. Nick Foles

Foles is filling in once more for Carson Wentz, but he’s doing it with some expensive jewelry in his back pocket. Nobody is going to mistake Foles for Wentz in terms of talent and future, but the former University of Arizona star can more than hold his own, something the playoffs showed the nation a year ago.

18. Patrick Mahomes

Ranking Mahomes wasn’t easy. Do you put him towards the back because of his inexperience (only one career start) or higher up because of potential? The decision ended up being towards the middle, due to some unmistakably unique skills and a tremendous group of weaponry. Mahomes will make his mistakes, but he’s also going to fill up a highlight reel.

17. Alex Smith

Smith is off to Washington, where he will try to revive his third franchise. The Redskins don’t have the playmakers that Smith enjoyed in Kansas City, but look for the 34-year-old to be his typical self: limited turnovers, limited big plays, lots of close games.
