8. Troy Trojans (SB) 2-1

Another year, another road upset of a major program for Neal Brown’s Trojans. Troy capitalized on a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown by Cedarius Rookard and three Nebraska turnovers to shock the Cornhuskers in Lincoln.

It is the first 0-2 start since 1957 for Nebraska. Nebraska out-gained the Men of Troy 364-253 in total yards, despite playing without injured starting quarterback Adrian Martinez.

But special teams and turnovers swung the game in favor of Troy. Trojan running back B.J. Smith ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns. While starting quarterback Kaleb Barker only threw for 110 yards, backup Sawyer Smith broke off a 57-yard run that keyed one of Troy’s scoring drives.

7. San Diego State Aztecs (Mountain West) 2-1

The Aztecs get back in the top 10 with an upset of a ranked Pac-12 team in Arizona State. The game was even in the first half, as the teams were tied at 14 at halftime.

But San Diego State controlled the second half, putting together three scoring drives–two field goals and a touchdown–to earn the win.

The Aztecs pounded Arizona State on the ground, finishing with 311 yards rushing. Juwan Washington was a workhorse, rushing 27 times for 138 yards. Chase Jasmin also hit the century mark, reaching 112 yards on 19 carries. Quarterback Ryan Agnew got in on the act too, with 9 carries for 36 yards.

SDSU Head Coach Rocky Long has built a tough, physical football team that imposed their will to come out with a big victory in Week 3.
