6. Fresno State Bulldogs (MWC) 2-1

The Bulldogs bounced back from a road loss to a Power 5 team to get a win over another major-conference program. As mentioned above, the Bulldogs beat down Chip Kelly’s Bruins in impressive fashion.

Fresno State out-gained UCLA 420 to 270 in total yards, and forced four Bruin turnovers. Quarterback Marcus McMaryion was responsible for getting the points on the board. He had four touchdown runs and 270 yards and a touchdown passing.

5. North Texas Mean Green (Conference USA) 3-0

The Mean Green pulled off what may have been the biggest win in school history in Week 3. They went on the road to Arkansas and dismantled the Razorbacks 44-17. Granted the Hogs might be the worst team in a Power 5 conference at the moment, but it was a thorough beating nonetheless.

Quarterback Mason Fine and receivers Rico Bussey, Jr. and Jalen Guyton were mentioned last week, but North Texas put together a team effort in Fayetteville.

Running back Loren Easly had some powerful runs, finishing with 68 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Fine was held 150 yards below his season passing total, throwing for 281 yards compared to the 431 he came into the game averaging. He still got the job done, however, putting a touchdown on the board through the air and on the ground.

Keegan Brewer pulled off the play of the day in college football. Fielding a punt at his own 10-yard line, Brewer stood there casually for a second, fooling the Razorbacks’ defenders into thinking he called a fair catch. Once they started walking towards the sidelines, Brewer took off for an easy 90-yard score.
