3. Buffalo (-5.5) at Rutgers

It’s not every day that you see a team from the MAC going on the road to face a Big Ten school and being favored in that game. Yet, that’s the situation that’s presenting itself in regards to the Buffalo Bulls heading to New Jersey to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The favored Bulls enter this game with a pristine 3-0 record, and one that doesn’t just include wins over pushovers. Beating Delaware State handily in Week 1 certainly qualifies in that regard, but they also notched wins at Temple and over Eastern Michigan, two solid teams. In fact, Temple has a win over a Big Ten school of their own, topping Maryland last week.

As for Rutgers, they beat Texas State in their season-opener, but have proven to potentially be the worst Power 5 team in the country since then. That was partially clear as they lost 52-3 to Ohio State, but made abundantly so when they weren’t just beaten, but were throttled by the perennially bottom-feeding Kansas Jayhawks last week.

Buffalo has one of the most underrated offenses in the country, anchored by big 6-foot-7 quarterback Tyree Jackson and star wide receiver Anthony Johnson. They will now go up against a Rutgers defense that is allowing 38 points per game to this point. The issue for the Bulls against most Power 5 competiton would be their defense, however.

That’s not so much a worry with Rutgers, though, as they’ve scored just 17.3 points per game to this point and have a quarterback in Artur Sitkowski who has seven interceptions already on the year to just one touchdown. With that, the Bulls should win this one running away, even on the road.
