TCU steamrolled through Southern University and SMU, but dealt with more difficult tasks over the past two weeks, with games against Ohio State and Texas. Both turned into losses and placed the team on a suddenly rocky start.

Three turnovers in the air led to the Horned Frogs demise, as quarterback Shawn Robinson threw two interceptions and passed for 197 yards. He added 57 yards on the ground, and Jalen Reagor had 96 yards and one touchdown receiving, but none of it was enough.

TCU has an easier opponent in Week 5 with Iowa State. After that, it’s back to the ranked opponents, as Texas Tech and Oklahoma State will take a visit in October.

Texas Tech had its checkpoint game of the first quarter of the season, with a 41-17 win over the previous No. 2 in the Big 12 rankings, Oklahoma State. Behind 397 yards and two touchdowns from quarterback Alan Bowman and 130 yards and two touchdowns from Demarcus Felton, it became a runaway in the second half.

The win pushed the Red Raiders into ranked territory, but it’s hardly guaranteed they stay there for a long. That’s with a matchup against West Virginia next and a road game vs. TCU afterward.

Still, it’s a positive early season run for Texas Tech, who has the chance to make an impression in the top 25 as the halfway point of the season nears. Can they follow through?
