8. South Florida Bulls (American Athletic Conference) 4-0

The Bulls move up two spots, despite being on a bye in Week 5. They should have been able to enjoy the week off, with an undefeated record. They have beaten two teams from Power 5 conferences in Georgia Tech and Illinois, granted neither of them is particularly strong. South Florida has also already recorded a conference victory, beating East Carolina 20-13 in Week 4.

Up next: Saturday at UMass.

7. Houston Cougars (AAC) 3-1

It was a slow week in the AAC, as Houston was also off in Week 5. The Cougars moved up one spot with a few teams losing in front of them.

A year after revolving through three different quarterbacks, D’Eriq King has been a godsend for Houston in 2018. King has thrown for almost 300 yards per game during the team’s 3-1 start. He would be averaging well over the mark had he not sat out the second half of the team’s game against Texas Southern.

Houston has an interesting schedule as it opens conference play next week. For the rest of the season, they play only two games on Saturdays. They have three games on both Thursday and Friday. If you’re a fan of weeknight football, the Cougars are capable of putting on a show.

Up next: Thursday vs. Tulsa.
