5. Rally in Tally – 2017

This may be recency bias but in Week 5 of the college football season, the undefeated Hurricanes needed a last-second touchdown to secure the victory. With only six-seconds remaining quarterback, Malik Rosier found receiver Darrell Langham for a touchdown to secure a four-point victory over their rival.

A win over Florida State at the time felt huge but was less impressive given the rest of the Seminoles’ season. Miami went on to a one-loss regular season but losing in the ACC Championship and the subsequent bowl game. This win was huge for the Hurricanes because it ended a seven-game losing streak at the hands of Florida State. A rivalry that featured some incredible moments had one of it’s best only a year ago.

4. Bowden goes for the win – 1987

30 years before the “Rally in Tally” the Canes and Noles battled with both entering the game inside the top five. Coach Bobby Bowden got his squad out to a big two touchdown lead through the fourth quarter. In a game that featured some of the NFL’s future stars, Miami came back with 23 unanswered points.

Florida State was able to score a late touchdown to bring the game to 26-25. Bowden opted to go for the win with a two-point conversion instead of the field goal for the tie. Interestingly enough, college football did not have overtime at the time so a tie was a real possibility. Miami was able to break up the pass attempt, secure the onside kick and win the game. The Hurricanes would go on to win the national championship that year behind coach Jimmy Johnson.
