3. Adeiny Hechavarria

The fact that Didi Gregorius will miss a lot of time due to Tommy John surgery leaves the Yankees with a giant hole at shortstop. Manny Machado will draw all the headlines, but don’t rule out the idea that the organization might bring Hechavarria back.

He isn’t a superstar, but he is an excellent defensive player. Hechavarria has gold glove potential. If the Yankees can’t find a superstar to help solve their middle infield injury crisis, going with a plus defensive player would make a lot of sense.

Hechavarria is a player the Yankees should look to bring back no matter what. He’s an excellent option to have on the bench as the season goes along. The fact that he can play multiple positions also increases his value as a bench player.

Hechavarria might want to leave the Bronx to look for a starting job this winter, but we don’t think there’s one out there for him. That means he’s looking at a backup level contract. The Yankees should bring him back at a modest price.
