2019 NFL Mock Draft: Chargers find successor for Philip Rivers
By Brad Weiss
The Arizona Cardinals lost a tough one to the Minnesota Vikings this past weekend, and new head coach Steven Wilks is already talking about jobs being on the line. That is a bit of a stretch for the first-year head coach, who has a talented young quarterback in Josh Rosen, and has a running back in David Johnson who is still coming off a torn up knee last season.
Still, the Cardinals are 1-5 to start the season, and are looking down the barrel of being a team that picks in the first five selections next April. While they have plenty of ways they could go with the pick, look for them to bolster the offensive line, because protecting Rosen has to be priority No. 1 of the organization at this point.
Rosen has shown that he can be a franchise quarterback, and that is more than half the battle when it comes to today’s NFL. Putting a player like Jonah Williams from Alabama in front of him would be the way to go in the first round next year, as it would give the team an anchor on their offensive line for years to come.
Williams is a fantastic offensive tackle prospect, and is a big reason why the Alabama Crimson Tide offense has been so explosive this season. The Cardinals are not going to be a contender in the NFC West this season, but if they continue to add pieces around the talented Rosen, they should be a contender in the division once again very soon.
