High Value PG

Players costing $6,667 or under

JJ Barea (vs MIN – $4,800): Needs 20.4 fantasy points. Barea was a reliable option last season and he’s coming off a 29.6 fantasy point effort on opening night against the Suns. The Timberwolves are on a back-to-back, on the road, and have no actual defense. Barea can torch them off the bench, especially if the Timberwolves continue to play Derrick Rose. They will continue to play Derrick Rose. Diagnosis: Reliable option against a good matchup and a relatively high ceiling.

Rajon Rondo (vs HOU – $4,700): Needs 20 fantasy points. Rondo had 34.2 fantasy points against the Blazers. It looks like he’ll continue to get big minutes as the starter alongside LeBron James. And if Rondo does one thing well, he picks up plenty of assists while chipping in with some points. The salary remains low enough to where he can make a big impact given his role. Diagnosis: Low salary and plenty of opportunity to succeed. He’ll put up his numbers.

Derrick Rose (at DAL – $4,000): Needs 17 fantasy points. Remember earlier when I said Rose is going to continue to play? Yup, that’s a thing. He had 28.8 fantasy points against the Cavaliers on Friday. Not only does Rose play solid minutes off the bench, he’s a focal point of the offense. He gets his shots and, as he showed against Cleveland, he can chip in with assists. He’s on a low salary and the Mavericks defense did not look good against the Suns. Diagnosis: Low risk player with a big reward given how much control he has under Thibs.
