Fantasy Football 2018: Top 10 waiver wire Week 9 pickups
7. Peyton Barber, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Peyton Barber won’t be the only player on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to make this list of recommended waiver wire additions in Week 9, and his strong performance in Week 8 shouldn’t go unnoticed despite Ryan Fitzpatrick’s big performance.
It seemed like Barber had gained a firm grasp on the Buccaneers starting running back gig in Week 6 by ripping apart the rival Atlanta Falcons for 82 yards on 13 carries, adding 4 receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown to establish himself as a potential fantasy football breakout at the running back position.
He took a big step back in Week 7 in an easy matchup against the Cleveland Browns defense, but perhaps the Browns run defense was underestimated. Barber got back on track in Week 8 with 85 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown, and with Ronald Jones injured, it seems like Barber will take the Buccaneers starting job and never look back.
Barber is approaching “must-own” status after a second big game, especially with Jones hurt. He’ll face the Carolina Panthers next, and while Fitzpatrick eats into Barber’s value in this pass-happy Bucs offense, Barber will face easier fronts because of the deep threats on this roster. If he can continue to score touchdowns, fantasy owners will have little to complain about.
