An upset win over the ranked Texas Longhorns pushed Oklahoma State in the right direction until a four-point loss to Baylor deterred that and any momentum in the Big 12. Especially to push towards the top three of the conference, which opened after West Virginia knocked off the burnt orange on Saturday.

It was a must-win game for the Cowboys who have Oklahoma, West Virginia and TCU remaining on the schedule. A win could develop within this, but the former two are this conference’s elite and the Horned Frogs have a battle-tested defense.

Maybe head coach Mike Gundy’s squad finds themselves at 5-7 to close the season, but 6-6 has potential, at least if they can win their final game.

Texas Tech was 5-2 and on a positive path in the Big 12. However, back-to-back losses to Iowa State and Oklahoma cost them any hope at the conference championship game The most recent one was a shootout that didn’t bring Patrick Mahomes vs. Baker Mayfield comparisons but still resulted in nearly 100 points.

The loss knocked the Red Raiders to 3-3 in the conference, two games behind No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 2 West Virginia. Even with Baylor and Kansas State left on the schedule, it’s likely too much to make up ground, barring a collapse by the Mountaineers or the Sooners.

How far can TTU go? They only need one more win to claim a bowl spot. It might not happen against Texas, but either of the final two games is possible.
