8. Ito Smith, Atlanta Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys

Atlanta Falcons running back Ito Smith has been a disappointment for fantasy owners, since he hasn’t taken advantage of Devonta Freeman’s absence, beyond a few touchdowns. What hurt Smith the most last week was that he couldn’t earn those scoring opportunities, as the Cleveland Browns defense showed up big time at home, suffocating Matt Ryan and the Falcons defense.

It was, however, encouraging to see Smith catch four passes, even if he only gained 15 yards on those plays. Smith’s value in the passing game has been largely non-existent, especially since Tevin Coleman is a bona fide star as both a rusher and receiver.

Smith will face the Dallas Cowboys, and while this isn’t necessarily a plus matchup, he could have some value as touchdown-scorer and a receiver. The Cowboys look like a new offense with Amari Cooper operating as Dak Prescott’s No. 1 target, which means they’ll be involved in more competitive games.

That bodes well for Smith’s value, as he very much depends on the Falcons remaining aggressive on offense. Unlike most running backs, Smith doesn’t hoard carries; his value stems from touchdowns and the occasional reception to boost his minimal PPR value. Smith could be a decent play in Week 11 against Dallas.
