4. Yankees make a huge trade for Nolan Arenado

It’s very obvious the Yankees are not convinced that Miguel Andujar is their third baseman of the future. He’s been featured in trade talks with multiple teams this winter. Cashman and company do see a lot of value in him, but they are open to upgrading their options at the hot corner.

Nolan Arenado happens to be one of the best third baseman in the game. The Rockies would love to hold on to him, but he’s going to cost a fortune in free agency next winter. Colorado may decide that trading him to the Yankees now is better than losing him to New York in free agency with nothing to show for it.

This deal features the Yankees paying a very high price. Andujar’s ability to rake at the Major League level is already established. The Rockies would slot him right into Arenado’s hole in the lineup for years to come.

The inclusion of Florial in the deal would really excite the Rockies and sting the Yankees. New York doesn’t want to move him this winter, but they’d have to consider it in a move for a superstar like Arenado. Gray also moves in this deal to sweeten the pot just a little bit more for Colorado.

In the end, the Yankees might be better off signing Manny Machado in free agency this winter, but if they get a shot at Arenado, look for Cashman to take it.
