4. Paterson helps Cardiff to first away win

Cardiff were one of the three sides to be promoted to the Premier League for this season and although they looked out of place at first, they seem to be coming into their own now. They’ve put in some fantastic performances at home but on the road their form has been a different story.

Ultimately, it will be Cardiff’s home form that keeps them up, but any away points they can take are a huge bonus. Neil Warnock will know this and now that his side have a little more confidence in themselves, they may have a better chance of getting results on the road.

This weekend the Welsh side travel to Vicarage Road to face off against Watford in a match that will be very tough but is definitely winnable. The Hornets had a fantastic start to the season but have stuttered lately with no wins in their last five matches.

Javi Gracia’s side like to play nice free-flowing soccer and they create plenty of chances but they’ve not been clinical enough in front of goal. In matches against Newcastle, Arsenal and Southampton they’ve been wasteful and that’s led to the Hornets dropping valuable points.

Watford may have it a bit easier this weekend as Cardiff’s defense are not exactly air tight. The Bluebirds have struggled at the back and they have one of the worst defensive records in the league. Only Burnley and Fulham have a worse record than the Welsh side this season.

However, of late Cardiff have been winning matches by outscoring their opposition — something that seemed unfathomable at the beginning of the season. That goalscoring hasn’t been replicated on the road but there’s not reason why it can’t be.

The likes of Junior Hoilett, Josh Murphy and Callum Paterson all pose good attacking threats. Paterson was the Bluebirds top scorer last season and he’s replicating that form again this year with four goals already to his name.

To put that into context, Paterson has scored more Premier League goals than Dele Alli, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Wilfried Zaha. This weekend the Scottish international will continue his fine form, grab a goal and lead his side to their first away win of the season.
