4. Pat Fitzgerald

The links between Pat Fitzgerald and the Packers make him an obvious coach to keep an eye on as a replacement for McCarthy. Current Packers CEO Mark Murphy has worked with Fitzgerald in the past when he was Athletic Director at Northwestern, where Fitzgerald has spent the last 13 years coaching. Trying to coerce Fitzgerald to leave his Alma Mater where he has rescued the football program has been, and will continue to be difficult.

The Packers are reportedly planning on requesting an interview with Fitzgerald after his Northwestern squad take on Utah in the Holiday Bowl. Whether the university will grant that privilege, or even if Fitzgerald is even interested in interviewing, are unknown obviously as nothing has happened yet.

This stint with Northwestern has been his only one as a head coach and he has produced a 95-70 record, but has faltered in bowl games, accumulating a 3-5 record in postseason play. College football is obviously a different beast than that in the NFL and some coaches struggle to bridge that gap.

Regardless, the opportunity to coach one of the greatest franchises in the storied history of the NFL, may be enough to lure Fitzgerald away from the comfort of Northwestern. The opportunity to work with Aaron Rodgers is a nice plus too, obviously. Fitzgerald is an interesting option to keep an eye on, more news will come following the end of bowl season.
