4. Re-Sign Pierre Desir

The Indianapolis Colts have plenty of money to throw at star defensive players in free agency, and they don’t have many free agents they need to keep this offseason. However, one player they should make an effort to re-sign is cornerback Pierre Desir, who bounced around the league before finally finding a home in Indianapolis this season for a breakout campaign.

Desir was first signed by the Colts in 2017, but he didn’t get much of an opportunity to show the skills that made him a popular draft sleeper in 2014 as a fourth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns. That’s because Desir suffered an injury in 2017, appearing in just nine games and was unimpressive overall.

But the Colts wisely decided to take a small chance on Desir, signing him to a one-year, $1.75 million prove-it deal. Desir certainly proved himself in 2018 to the Colts fanbase, quieting most wide receivers who lined up across from him, including an excellent performance against elite wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in the Colts Wild Card round blowout win over the rival Houston Texans.

Though Desir will undoubtedly cost more than $1.75 million going forward, signing the 27-year-old to a modest, multi-year raise would be wise. The Colts can afford to sign a few more players on defense, but continuity should be a priority for Reich and the front office, given that the team made the postseason after winning double-digit regular season games.

Indianapolis racked up a 9-1 record over their final 10 regular season games for a reason, and breakout players like Desir are a big reason for that. He’s a physical receiver who doesn’t get beat over the top, and he seems to have great chemistry with the others in the secondary, such as young free safety Malik Hooker. He’s a must-keep for the rising Colts.
