Here are 5 things the Colts need to do this offseason to bounce back

3. Sign A Second Wideout

In a pass-happy league, depth at the wide receiver position might be just as important as star power. Just ask the Los Angeles Rams, who didn’t miss a beat after Cooper Kupp’s injury, as they were able to seamlessly slot in Robert Woods and Josh Reynolds behind Brandin Cooks. Or ask the Philadelphia Eagles, who decided to acquire Golden Tate as a partner-in-crime for No. 1 wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, with Tate scoring the team’s game-winning touchdown against the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card round.

The Colts don’t have much depth at wide receiver, and it showed when T.Y. Hilton missed some time this season with an injury. If, God forbid, anything serious were to happen to Hilton, the Colts would be in some serious trouble right now, especially with journeyman No. 4 option Dontrelle Inman operating as the team’s No .2 wide receiver. Credit to Frank Reich for getting the most out of a fellow former Charger, but Andrew Luck needs more weapons around him.

If the Colts are able to grab a couple of capable wide receivers this offseason, they could have one of the league’s scariest offenses,  especially if Marlon Mack is able to make some more strides in the 2019 season.

There are a few big names who could be available on the market, including Baltimore Ravens underrated weapon John Brown, who would hold more value in the Colts offense than in Baltimore’s offense. Rashard Higgins is sneakily the Cleveland Browns best wide receiver and could be an interesting restricted free agent play, if the Browns don’t value him appropriately. John Dorsey has the Browns in business, but it’s anyone’s guess as to how they’ll play things.

Lesser options include Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Adam Humphries who could be a breakout candidate on a less crowded roster, Dallas Cowboys slot man Cole Beasley, New York Giants receiver Cody Latimer, and Carolina Panthers mercurial wideout Devin Funchess.

Those are depth receivers who should be cheaper and could have better days with a change of scenery. But if the Colts really want a high-impact player, then Tyrell Williams looks like their best bet. On a Chargers team that includes Keenan Allen and former top 10 overall pick Mike Williams, Tyrell is a good bet to reach the free agent market and get paid, given his speed and efficiency numbers, he’d be the most intriguing option for Indianapolis.
