Is Todd Gurley hurt?
By Tyler Brooke
The Los Angeles Rams seemed awfully conservative trying to utilize Todd Gurley during the NFC Championship against the Saints on Sunday.
A game away from the Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Rams were hoping for a big day from running back Todd Gurley. Unfortunately that didn’t look to be the case on Sunday.
After missing the last two games of the regular season with knee inflammation, Gurley came back and looked strong in the divisional round against the Cowboys. He finished the game with 115 yards and a touchdown on 16 touches, looking a lot like his old self.
Unfortunately, the Rams were much more conservative with Gurley on Sunday against the Saints, leading many to wonder if he’s still dealing with his knee. His first two carries went for minus-two yards, and he had a crucial drop on a third down in the second quarter that held the Rams to only a field goal.
With the Rams dealing with a 13-0 deficit early on, there are few other reasons why Sean McVay and the coaching staff wouldn’t be trying to get Gurley more carries early on. He finished the regular season with 1,831 total yards and 21 total touchdowns this season, proving to be a serious workhorse.
C.J. Anderson has turned out to be a savior for the run game, running for 422 yards and four touchdowns over the last three games. While Anderson has also been a workhorse, Gurley’s more versatile skill set can be much more valuable in such a big game against the Saints.
If Gurley is still hurt, this could be bad news for the Rams and their hopes at making it to the Super Bowl.
