Boston Red Sox: RHP Gerrit Cole

The Boston Red Sox put on a magical run during the 2018 MLB season, winning over 100 games, locking up the AL East, and then going on to win the World Series. They had talent up and down the roster, a steady rotation, and got contributions from everyone that stepped on the field.

While this team is loaded right now, next winter is going to be interesting, as some of their best talent will be free agents. Guys like Xander Bogaerts, Chris Sale, Rick Porcello, and Brock Holt are all going to hit free agency, and there is just so much money that can go around.

When it comes to the Red Sox, there is not much talent on the farm, as Bleacher Report rated them as the No. 30 farm system in baseball. They sent away a lot of talent to get the roster they have now, but changes are coming, and tough decisions will have to be made after the 2019 season.

If Boston cannot bring back Sale or Porcello, or even both, they may have to hit the open market for an arm. Gerrit Cole is scheduled to be a free agent, and the Red Sox have already shown they will make moves for arms. He would be a perfect fit in this rotation in 2020 and beyond, as they look to keep pace with the New York Yankees in the AL East.
