1. Settle on a starting quarterback

He was the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. And for the first four seasons of his NFL career, quarterback Ryan Tannehill didn’t miss a game. In fact, he started every contest for the club over that span. And while his numbers as a rookie were a bit uneven, there was steady improvement over the years as the one-time Texas A&M wide receiver learned to be a pro quarterback.

But in Week 14 of 2016 in an eventual home win over the Arizona Cardinals, Tannehill injured his knee and was lost for the remainder of the season and the playoffs. That same knee would eventually wind up requiring surgery in 2017 and once-promising quarterback missed the entire year. As for the team, then-head coach Adam Gase coaxed Jay Cutler out of retirement. But it wasn’t the ideal solution and the team finished 6-10.

This past season, the Dolphins got off to quite the start, winning their first three games of the season. But the club’s warts began to show as the year wore on. Tannehill would once again not play a full season, this time Brock Osweiler filling in for five games. And now the team appears at the moment ready to move on from the one-time first-round pick.

Where will the answer come from? Could the club get lucky and find their long term solution behind center with the No. 13 pick in April? Could there be a trade down the road for someone like Denver’s Case Keenum? Is there a reliable option in free agency? The Dolphins have a big question to answer within the next few months.
