NFL free agency 2019: Best quarterbacks available

The league’s offseason is underway and NFL free agency starts on March 13. Here is a look at the some top quarterbacks that could hit the open market.

While some would debate that it’s the most position on the football field, it’s not a spot that has had a lot of success being filled through free agency. Most teams have been able to find a quarterback in the draft, regardless of the round, and let that player grow over the years.

Still, there’s always the free-agent route. So who are the best hurlers that could be available for the taking? There is one veteran who heads the list and his contract actually doesn’t expire on March 13. But it’s also apparent that this player figures to be elsewhere in 2019. So…

5. Ryan Tannehill (Miami Dolphins)*

There’s a reason that the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft is on this list. This despite the fact that quarterback Ryan Tannehill is still under contract by for the Miami Dolphins (as is Baltimore Ravens’ veteran Joe Flacco). By all indications, the organization is expected to part ways with a player that has had problems staying healthy each of the past three seasons – which includes a lost campaign in 2017 (via Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald).

The 30-year-old pro started every game for the ‘Fins in his first four seasons. But Tannehill missed the final three games in ‘16, all of the following season and five games this past year. In 2018, he threw for only 1,979 yards and 17 scores while committing 13 turnovers. If and when he is released, he will be available for teams to sign immediately.
