NFL Free Agency 2019: Best safeties available
5. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix FS, Washington Redskins
Inconsistency best describes former first-round pick Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. His brief, five-year career has had many ups and downs on the field.
Drafted with the 21st pick of the first-round in the 2014 NFL Draft, Clinton-Dix played just about five and half seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He was then traded to the Washington Redskins during the season, where he finished 2018.
While Clinton-Dix would often times find himself out of position and slightly a liability to his team, he has been a ball-hawk and a good tackler. In 80 NFL regular-season games, he has 14 interceptions and he has had two seasons of 100+ tackles.
In 2016 Clinton-Dix was named to his lone Pro Bowl after intercepting five passes. As said before, he has had his ups and his downs. However, his downs seem to be a bit overblown.
Since coming into the league in 2014, he has the most solo tackles among all safeties in the NFL. During that same duration of time, he has the sixth-most interceptions and the second-highest amount of combined tackles.
According to spotrac.com, the 26-year-old currently has a market value of $9.9 million per year and could demand a contract around $50 million over five years.
Clinton-Dix may have worn out his welcome in Green Bay, but he will surely be a great addition to another team’s secondary this offseason. With room to grow and a new coaching staff to learn from, he may very well become one of the better safeties in the NFL.
