5. Interior offensive line

Tennessee has built one of the better offensive lines in the league. Tackles Taylor Lewan and Jack Conklin appear to be mainstays, while center Ben Jones provides stability up the middle.

Those three have shown results upon arrival. Lewan has been named to the Pro Bowl three years in a row, Conklin was an All-Pro his rookie year and Jones has been consistent at center.

While those three have solidified perhaps the three most important positions on the offensive line, they need to add some muscle to their guards. Last season, Josh Kline played every game at right guard, and Quinton Spain started at left guard.

Pro Football Focus ranked the team’s offensive line as one of the top-10 units in the league after Week 17. However, FootballOutsiders.com had them ranked as one of the worst pass-protecting lines in football.

Spain is probably the most expendable in this situation because Kline is under contract for the next few years. Kline does have a potential out on his contract this offseason, but it seems as though he will be back.

Dumping more money into an already fairly expensive offensive line may seem ridiculous but could be the best avenue for a quick fix. A veteran like Rodger Saffold would be ideal if he could fit into the budget. If they look to the draft, two Wisconsin guards Michael Deiter and Beau Benzschawel could be options.

Regardless of which route they choose, keeping Mariota protected and helping the pass game will give the team an elite offensive line.
