3. Inside linebacker

The Chargers were without starting inside linebacker Denzel Perryman for the latter part of the season. He only played in nine games before going down with injury. In fact, Perryman has only played in 16 games in the past two seasons.

Now, Perryman joins Phillips as current roster players ready to walk into free agency this offseason. The team could end up bringing him back because of his familiarity with the team’s 4-3 scheme. Although, this may be a spot where management decides to reel in a big fish in free agency.

One name that will surely put a smile on Chargers fans is Baltimore Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley. Quite possibly one of the most underrated players in the NFL, Mosley has led the Ravens defense ever since he was drafted in 2014.

Mosley has been named to the Pro Bowl in four of his five seasons in the NFL. In 77 career games, he has 597 combined tackles, 8.5 sacks and nine interceptions. Spotrac.com has his yearly salary projected to be $9.7 million and his next contract to look like just over $48 million over five years.

There is not a single doubt that Mosley would be money well spent. But it comes down to a fairly large financial decision. However, the Chargers are projected to have over $100 million in available cap in 2020.

Obviously, this is mainly because they don’t have many players under contract for that duration. Nevertheless, they do have more financial freedom past 2019, which would make signing Mosley far more likely.
